Connect a Laptop to a Wireless Router
Having limited mobility because your laptop is tethered to your Internet connection by wires defeats the whole purpose of a laptop computer. If you want to be able to access the web or share files and printers with another computer and still have the freedom to move around, you'll have to connect to a wireless router. It's easy enough to do and well worth the effort

Purchase a wireless router that fits your needs and price range.

Follow the router's manual to set up the router and its Internet connection, which will probably require connecting a wired client to the router. Once the wireless router is set up, the wired connection is no longer necessary. However, it's best to leave the wired client connected if it's a separate computer from that on which you're going to set up WiFi. If something goes wrong, you can access the administration interface again.

Gather information from the setup process. In order to set up the wireless client, you will need to know the service set identifier (SSID), the Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) key and the channel and mode.

Boot up the laptop and plug in the WiFi card. This will not be necessary if your laptop has an integrated WiFi card.

Install any drivers needed to use the WiFi card. Insert the disc that came with the WiFi card and follow the on-screen installation process. Most discs will trigger a new hardware wizard that makes installation extremely simple.

Overview:
Thanks to Indian growth story, Cult bike maker Harley Davidson is likely to make its Indian foray soon. While dhoom 1 and Dhoom 2 have given a definite dimension to India’s premium bike market, Rolls Royce and Maybach are already getting decent numbers in their order book. Many youngsters and business honchos are following their sports or film’s hero and love to ride their dream machines.
Here are some rules and regulations which you must know when you are importing cars or bikes. When Sachin imported Ferrari and when Kingfisher Vijay Mallaya imported Lamborghini these regulations and the consequent uproar flashed in our TV screens. A complete knowledge on this will help you to import your dream machines and enjoy!
For importing a new bike you have to pay 105 percent duty and100 percent duty for a used one. In case of cars, for a completely built unit or CBU you have to pay 111 percent duty (60% on CBU imports plus countervailing duties and other levies). Whereas the duty on “completely knocked down” or CKD models which are assembled in country, is only 38 to 48 percent depending on engine displacement. These are based on EXIM policies (export and import policy) which are framed on 2002. Here are the few terminologies and conditions you must know
Customs duty: Tariff imposed on import/export on autos and auto ancillaries. In this year budget peak rate of Customs duty from 12.5 per cent to 10 per cent and also Central Sales Tax (CST) from 4 per cent to 3 per cent.
Excise Duty: Excise Duty is an indirect tax levied and collected on the goods manufactured in India. In last year’s Budget had reduced the excise duty on small cars (petrol engines within 1200cc and diesel engines within 1500cc) to 16 per cent, while maintaining it at 24 per cent for all other cars and utility vehicles.
Homologation: Process of certifying that a particular car is roadworthy and the Pune-based Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) provide this clearance. According to existing norms, every original car model brought into the country by an individual or a manufacturer must have homologation clearance. Even domestic car manufacturers need a homologation certificate for new models. There are some exclusions as well
•Manufacturers can import left hand drive vehicles only for testing and research purposes.
•Individuals importing top-end cars can waive off the testing — or homologation — requirements. Any individual can import a vehicle priced above Rs 20 lakh without sending it for road-worthiness tests.
•Import of new vehicles is only permitted through Customs ports at Nhava Sheva, Kolkata, Chennai, Delhi Air Cargo and at ICD, Tughlakabad
•Very important note for Non Residential Indians (NRIs) – individuals coming to India for permanent settlement after two years of continuous stay abroad can bring in a car provided the vehicle has been in their possession for at least one year abroad. This now ensures that individuals coming to India do not bring in an absolutely new car.

Value of these vehicles for the purpose of levy of customs duty is CIF value, where C stands for the cost of the goods, I is the insurance and F is the freight. Cost in the case of new vehicles is the transaction value between the seller and the buyer, however in the case of old and used vehicles cost is arrived at by taking value of the vehicle in year of manufacture and after allowing depreciation at following rates.

Day-to-day life exhibits examples of physics
There are some things that are trade secrets that people use in their day-to-day life and business. Mine is physics. Not the Albert Einstein, E=mc2 type of theoretical, lots-of-math-and-calculus physics, but rather the observed day-to-day stuff that we all tend to take for granted.
One morning this week I drove up Route 1A along the Penobscot River to Bangor. There was a little frost on the windshield, just enough to hint at what is yet to come. When the river came into sight, there was a plume of fog that seemed to emanate vertically wherever there was river. It hung over the river and forced me to wonder what is going on there. What was happening was the relatively warm river water vapor was rising off the river into the cool air and creating this beautiful fog.
Water is part of everything we have in this life. We are 95 percent water, and water permeates pretty much everything we contact to some degree.
As I went up a little farther on 1A and started to pass through some of the villages, the river was out of sight, but another moisture feature caught my attention. There was dew on the roofs of the houses that had asphalt shingles. And there were areas where the distinct outline of the house structure was very visible, just like a drawing.
On some houses it was dew and on some it was frost. It was just cool enough to show this. The frost or dew was dried off where there was more heat loss. Those areas were where there was a lack of insulation, usually due to a lot of wood framing that spanned from the inside of the house to the outside. When this situation occurs in construction, we refer to it as thermal bridging. We have an uninsulated “bridge” that shunts the heat out of the house very efficiently, upping our heating costs.
This is sometimes evident on the side walls of houses, also. Energy people love to look at this. Ah, physics in action!
Another issue we will be dealing with all too soon is frost action. You will notice the frost forming on the grass before it shows up on bare, dry dirt. Those blades of grass are tiny cooling fins that elegantly intermingle with the cold night air and condense out the water that is in the nighttime air.

The old-timers, people who lived closer to nature and the land than we do today, probably never even heard of physics. The United States, home to George Clooney and Jessica Simpson, came top in a poll of more than 5,000 globe-trotting Britons.
In second place was Brazil while Spain, which boasts Hollywood actress Penelope Cruz as one of its natives, was third.
Blonde, tanned surfers of Australia saw it voted into fourth place, while Italy came fifth.
Sexy Swedes, such as model Victoria Silvstedt, helped it into sixth spot, but England only made it into seventh place in the poll.
India was eighth, France ninth, and Canada finished off the top 10.
England's neighbours didn't fare so well in the poll though as Wales only made it in at number 13, Ireland was at 16, and Scotland was a measly 19th.
A spokeswoman for www.OnePoll.com, which carried out the study, said: ''America has got a lot on offer and boasts some of the sexiest people on the planet.
''The likes of Jessica Alba, Jennifer Aniston and Brad Pitt all help America's image as a hot bed of good looking people.

Ronaldo transferring to Aalborg = not total football, Wigan beating Manchester United 5-0 = not total football, playing in Sunny / Dry weather in the EPL, every week, no matter what time of the year = not total football…. To achieve this we reworked the fundamentals this mode is based on, we work towards avoiding these unrealistic events from happening and replaced them with more football authentic events. In the end we’re aiming to create a game mode that contributes to the overall “Total Football Experience” FIFA 10 will deliver via all its features."

Will player morale play a larger role in this year's game? Like if a guy doesn't feel like he's getting the proper playing time he will actually demand a transfer and keeping him in the team might screw with team chemistry. The morale meter is always there but it never seems to affect anything.
[MK] "Morale is not a concept that has been expanded on in FIFA 10. We’ve introduced Form and revamped Player Growth, these two features will have a big impact on the players and the way the user selects his squad."

[MK] - "The club and player you are negotiating with will still be taking a week to get back to you. That being said, we’ve removed the restriction of “Available bids”, so as long as your club and wage budget allows you to negotiate with additional players you will be free to do so. Also we’ve added a new feature where, after you successfully negotiated with a player, you don’t automatically sign him. You as the Manager still have to approve the transfer. This allows you to negotiate with multiple players on the same position and if they all accept your offer, you can individually accept or decline their transfer requests."
Did he say anything about loans? And what about getting sacked and having to search for work, or can we sadly pick any team we want after each season?

What is hibernate mode?
Hibernate mode is a power saving feature for computers. In hibernate mode, the current state of a computer is saved to the hard disk, and the computer shuts down. A user will have to power on the computer to restore the previous settings. When a computer resumes from hibernate mode, it reads the saved settings from the disk and restores the system state as it was before it entered hibernate mode.
How do I make curly hair straight
Curly hair just loves humidity. Come on, you know how it is: you spend hours holding a hair dryer and with a fat round brush pulling and brushing your hair so that it'll come out straight and sleek. Then you walk outside and get ambushed by the humidity, making your hair more curly and frizzy than before.
This is a common issue for people with curly hair who have at least once tried to make that hair straight.
Some quick-fixes include using permanent straighteners and relaxers- most of which you can find in supermarkets and drug stores to apply in your own home.
A relaxer is best suited for people who have hair that is especially difficult to style. This usually applies to people of African or Caribbean descent who have coarse and frizzy hair. The relaxer is a strong chemical substance that is applied to dry hair and then left on the hair anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes. The relaxer works chemically with the composition of your hair, weighing it down in certain areas and removing curls. Relaxers must be reapplied to new hair growth.
Other straighteners are called perms- permanents. These are better left for salons because this process is for people with a different type of hair characteristic of caucasians- straight hair with a smooth hair cuticle. Straighteners too have to be reapplied with to new growth.

When blow-drying the hair, simply place a small amount of the bergamot conditioner (whichever form of it and brand you can find) at the roots and at the ends and then use a comb to distribute the oil by combing a few strokes from the roots to the tips. This works best if you part your hair into several sections to blow-dry.
Once you are done blowdrying, if you feel that your hair is greasy or 'heavy', need not worry because the oil will be completely absorbed in the hair within an hour or two. If your hair is still alittle dry after styling, then simply add a bit more of the bergamot to the necessary areas.
Using the bergamot will maintain blow-dried styles for about a week, which at that point, you should wash your hair using a clarifying shampoo so that the residue of the bergamot doesn't build up too much. Some build-up is ok- that small amount of build-up replaces the oils that your hair lacks if your hair is usually dry.
Bergamot is also beneficial in treating dry scalp, especially dandruff. In the case of mild psoriassis and/or exczema, it is advised that you wash your hair at least twice a week because the bergamot will cause the extremely dry skin to come off in large flakes, leaving behind healthy supple skin. If bergamot is successful in treating your dry scalp, you could even try rubbing some on any dry skin patches on other areas of your body, like the elbows.
Hair sprays and other styling aides can be used on hair that has bergamot oil applied to it.
And one important note: many oil-based products claim that they can make your hair grow faster. There is no scientific evidence to back-up these claims. Many of these products are very greasy and might've turned you off to the idea of using an oil-based product in styling your hair, but bergamot is different.

When I connect my 9700 to my MacBook Pro, I get a message saying there is a newer version, and do I want to update? When i click Yes, I get an Unable To Mount The Downloaded Update File message.Then, when I try to manually do it with the .dmg file, it says ApploaderWebSL.dmg not recognized.Any clues, anyone, please, and is anyone else experiencing this issue?
Nokia :: OVi Suite - Update Phone Using PC Suite With Updater Software
I used the Ovi suite to install the free maps on my E72 which work great but the software itself is very poorly written, too many bugs and problems so i would like to uninstall it and use the PC suite instead. can I now update my phone using the PC suite with it's updater software or do I have to now rely on the Ovi suite.
The reason I ask instead of having two pieces of software is i want to a Vista/XP (two machines) clean install followed by a Ghost DVD so the smaller image the better (plus i dont like to have **bleep** installed on my machine:-)

I've recently installed an update to my ovi store on my nokia 5800 through the ovi suite and it doesnt work. It won't open up at all! I can't install or uninstall anything it keeps saying that it's "unable to start operation: installer already in use" its a pain, can anyone help me please?
Nokia :: Ovi Maps - Ovi Suite Internal Error E66
I have done a hard reset on a nokia e66 with firmware 410. When I first connected to ovi suite the maps module showed me internal error. But it wasn't any server error or try again etc. The steps are the following:
1) Format memory card
2) Download ovi maps from nokia website.
3) Open the maps in the phone and accept all the messages
4) Connect to the ovi suite and open maps.
5) And then magically it will tell you that you need an update on the maps.
6) Now I am in this step which updating but I think it has stuck.
Shame on you nokia for all these problems for a business telephone such as e66. That's why apple is always a level ahead in its interface and is winning just from that. Simplicity just simplicity.

The maps in my Nokia X6 16gb are gone after i ran an update in which it says will delete the old maps and voices to replace newer ones. Upon completion of the update, when i checked maps that are available in my device,Instead of new updated maps, there is only 1 map left which is Hong Kong and Macau, and i don't live in either one of it. Tried downloading the maps through the Ovi Suite, always got the message "The connection to the Ovi Maps server timed out"

When I click on install option from OVI Suite to update to the latest version, It keeps saying there's no network connection even though my net connection works fine. i tried installing the new version of Ovi Suite by downloading from Nokia Site, even that hangs after a while of installtion progress. Is there a easy way to upgrade or update new Ovi Suite ? Also if I cancel any installation mid way, I am not able to start it again unless I clear all installation files after restarting.this is frustrating to see a simple software upgrade is so cubersome.

I tried to install Ovi maps 3.03 but during the installation, it says there's not enough memory and it asks me to delete something from the C:. But I didn't really put much in C: and I don't know what I can delete without affecting the system.So, when I open "Maps" now, the old version still pops out (it says 3.01 when I click into "About"),but apparently the installer in the PC suite thinks I have 3.03 already.What should I do?

So this might be a little long winded, but it's just what I've been through so I cant' really condense it down anymore.So a few days ago now (almost a week) I received an SMS from Nokia telling me to update my phone firmware. I then hooked my phone up to my PC, and checked for software updates. I updated OVI Suite to the latest version, rebooted and then checked again. It found the update for my phone and asked if I wished to apply it. Naturally I said yes, it then told me I should backup my phone first, and then asked if I would like to do that now, which I said yes to, and chose to backup everything. It then downloaded the update, applied it, and then asked me to restore my phone, All of which appeared to work fine.A quick look through my phone to check everything and it all appeared normal, My custom theme was there, my facebook app was there, my contacts/photos/music were there. Oh but wait, I was missing my Sudoku game. A little odd, yes, but no worries I got that from the OVI store, I'll just be able to re-download it, because that's why you make purchases from app stores instead of publishers directly.No, apparently not. This game wasn't listed in my "My Stuff" tab in the OVI application. That's ok, I'll just download it from the SMS I was sent originally.
No. Not that either. The SMS link is no longer valid. So at a loss I decide to turn to technical support, I mean after all I have a technical issue I need support with.I e-mail technical support Basically telling them above. Then then ask for a transaction ID, which I have no record of (not sure why not?). I then provide even more information, ask them to escalate, ect. End result is, I don't get my game back. They have no record of me downloading this in the past, and for some reason it isn't available to download anymore.Frustrated, I e-mail the developer/publisher, explaining my situation. They respond promptly (within the hour), providing my with a link and SMS to download the application again, and apologise for Nokia's behaviour. Nice. I've now got my game back things are good again in my world.So with that little story in mind, I raise a few questions. Why was this application not backed up/restored with my phone backup? This seems like a pretty serious bug, especially considering that technical support won't provide download links for games or applications unless you can provide them with information provided by Nokia in the first place ( :s very round about).
My situation is pretty small in the whole scheme of things I guess. But if it can happen to me I guess it can happen to others. So why Nokia can things like this happen? What would have happened if this wasn't a small game, but rather a largish application, with data, that cost lots of money? Sure I could have gone directly to the publisher then as well, but if the purchase was made through the OVI store, what record would they have of me? This centralised store is supposed to handle all of these problems (ie, Steam or Apple App Store). Also how can bugs like this get through the alpha/beta testing of the OVI Suite backup utility? This must surely be considered a critical part of the application.Judging from my response from Nokia thus far, I'm not sure if I'm even expecting a response to this. I guess it should server as a warning to others if they think they can trust this software or even the technical support behind it to back them up in case of issues. My advise? Get a different brand phone.

Nokia :: Ovi Suite Closes Without Any Error
I have an X6 and have installed ovi suite. It has worked fine for a couple of weeks and I have been able to succesfully transfer media such as pictures and music.
Now when I click to start up ovi suite it loads the first white page then closes without any error messages. The OVI icon on the bottom right taskbar disapears when I hover the mouse over it. It will not start. I'm getting really sick of this phone and the software.
Does anyone know why this problem is occuring? Every other device I connect regularly (such as ipod, sony ericsson and 2 external HDDs have not suddenly stopped working) so why has this cheapo Nokia suddenly become incompatible?

OVI suite can't update the support softare on my N97... it's says "unable to install support software". Any solutions? On the PC I already unistall all Nokia software, used PCSuite Cleaner and cleaned the registry and then reinstall OVI Suite.I don't wont to hard reset the phone, format drive E and reinstall all the software.

I've had my e72 since February, but I only just finally got around to downloading ovi suite on my PC. installation was fine, then it came to the part where it says to connect the phone, so I did that, but nothing happened. the thing on the PC said that I should select 'ovi suite' or 'PC suite' when it appears on the phone, but the home screen was blank. i've tried connecting it many times and still nothing. the phone lights up when i connect it to the computer, but it doesn't prompt me for the connection mode. i've checked the settings (currently on usb conn. mode: PC suite / ask on conn.: yes) but it's not asking me on connection, nor is there any indication on the ovi suite program that it is connected.

I just got a new 7020 phone which came with an usb cable but no applications disk. I downloaded the latest ovi pc suite and tried to install it. After a bit it's installing I always receive a generic 1622 error and the installer quits. Stopped the avast antivirus and tried reinstalling, still no success. I downloaded Nokia OVI Suite (NOS) on Oct 3 2009. I synchronized all available elements: Address Book, Messages, Notes Photos etc. Then (after some days) I sync. My E71 with Outlook by using (old and trusty) Nokia PC Suite. After a day I realized that some! of the phone numbers of some! of my contacts disappeared. I can't tell which and how many details (data-element/s) in each contact data were deleted. I can only tell that all contacts are still there, but some of them with no phone number or missing phones.
I know that if I was aware of this problem before sync. To Outlook, I could have saved most of my data. I also found a full backup of my E71 dated 16 Aug. 2009. I have about 1,200 contacts and I can't tell which was damaged and what is that damage.

Nokia :: Ovi Suite 2 Fresh Installed Windows - Error Starting Back Up
I have an N97 handset and a 5800 handset. I have recently tried to use Ovi Suite to back up my phone and hit a problem.
I have reinstalling my windows machine from scratch using an original Windows XP install disk. I used windows update to install all windows patches (including IE8 and SP3) . When running windows update it tells me there are no new updates available. I also installed the latest firefox browser.
I downloaded and Ovi suite 2.0 from the Nokia website. I allowed it to detect my N97 handset. I allowed it to check for software updates and it told me there was an update for Ovi, which I installed.
I have set up Ovi not to sync anything with my phone. When I connect my phone and it appears in the Ovi suite, I can click on the "Back up" link or select back up from the tools menu.
At first it tells me than an operation is in progress and that I must wait or cancel it. I can't see that the Ovi suite is doing anything, no progress bars are present. If I wait 5 minutes and try back up again, the back up dialog appears. I select next to move onto step 2. It first says: "Wait a moment while preparing the backup…" then after about 30 seconds a red exclamation icon appears with: "Internal error. Due to an internal error, backup cannot be made. You can try again from Tools > Backup"
I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the phone, disconnecting, reconnecting and I cannot progress past step 2 of the backup.
I have also tried connecting a 5800 phone and experience exactly the same problem.
This is a fresh install of both Windows and Ovi suite with all the latest updates.
the N97 handset is running v11 of the firmware, since (although it is unbranded) v12 is still not available. the 5800 handset is running v21, since (although it is also unbranded) v30 and v31 are still not available. Both phones were bought directly from Nokia.

On June calendar sync worked fine between my E55 and Outlook 97. After my summer vacation sync doesn't work.

Have a N900. Got the phone to work against Smart Suite and later Ovis Suite very well for the first 3 weeks. Then the trouble started. I used it both with USB cable and BTooth. First my synchronization with Lotus Notes calendar stopped (have to go by the PC), then contacts and messages. And today it does not even recognize the phone as a compatible phone. In the whole period I have been installing all kind of applications. My suspicion is that the trouble is due to an installation of a particular application - my question is:Anyone that got an idea what might have caused this?? 2. I used LIFEBLOG under PC suite extensively. All my SMS text messages are saved and stored because I use this DATA for business communications. SMS is a record just like an email. It is invaluable to me to have an accurate record of ALL my SMS text messages. I was experiencing problems with Lifeblog NOT transfering ALL my SMS messages from the phone to Nokia PC suite. New messages not previously transfered to my PC were not picked up my the Lifeblog software as being needed to be transfered to my computer. I still dont know why it doesnt recognise these messages. Is there some sort of 'flag' put on the message in the phone data ? Why cant I CHOOSE which INDIVIDUAL Messages that I want transfered. AND why cant I set a control to transfer the message from the phone to the PC MORE than ONCE. (For instance I may inadvertantly have deleted a record of an SMS message on Lifeblog but the message is still in the phone memory and I want to transfer that message again - but there is NO way that I can see to do this..........

When i click Yes, I get an Unable To Mount The Downloaded Update File message.Then, when I try to manually do it with the .dmg file, it says ApploaderWebSL.dmg not recognized.Any clues, anyone, please, and is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I used the Ovi suite to install the free maps on my E72 which work great but the software itself is very poorly written, too many bugs and problems so i would like to uninstall it and use the PC suite instead. can I now update my phone using the PC suite with it's updater software or do I have to now rely on the Ovi suite.
The reason I ask instead of having two pieces of software is i want to a Vista/XP (two machines) clean install followed by a Ghost DVD so the smaller image the better (plus i dont like to have **bleep** installed on my machine:-)

I have done a hard reset on a nokia e66 with firmware 410. When I first connected to ovi suite the maps module showed me internal error. But it wasn't any server error or try again etc. The steps are the following:
1) Format memory card
2) Download ovi maps from nokia website.
3) Open the maps in the phone and accept all the messages
4) Connect to the ovi suite and open maps.
5) And then magically it will tell you that you need an update on the maps.
6) Now I am in this step which updating but I think it has stuck.
Shame on you nokia for all these problems for a business telephone such as e66. That's why apple is always a level ahead in its interface and is winning just from that. Simplicity just simplicity.

The maps in my Nokia X6 16gb are gone after i ran an update in which it says will delete the old maps and voices to replace newer ones. Upon completion of the update, when i checked maps that are available in my device,Instead of new updated maps, there is only 1 map left which is Hong Kong and Macau, and i don't live in either one of it. When I click on install option from OVI Suite to update to the latest version, It keeps saying there's no network connection even though my net connection works fine. i tried installing the new version of Ovi Suite by downloading from Nokia Site, even that hangs after a while of installtion progress. Is there a easy way to upgrade or update new Ovi Suite ? Also if I cancel any installation mid way, I am not able to start it again unless I clear all installation files after restarting.this is frustrating to see a simple software upgrade is so cubersome.

So this might be a little long winded, but it's just what I've been through so I cant' really condense it down anymore.So a few days ago now (almost a week) I received an SMS from Nokia telling me to update my phone firmware. I then hooked my phone up to my PC, and checked for software updates. I updated OVI Suite to the latest version, rebooted and then checked again. It found the update for my phone and asked if I wished to apply it. Naturally I said yes, it then told me I should backup my phone first, and then asked if I would like to do that now, which I said yes to, and chose to backup everything. It then downloaded the update, applied it, and then asked me to restore my phone, All of which appeared to work fine.A quick look through my phone to check everything and it all appeared normal, My custom theme was there, my facebook app was there, my contacts/photos/music were there. Oh but wait, I was missing my Sudoku game. A little odd, yes, but no worries I got that from the OVI store, I'll just be able to re-download it, because that's why you make purchases from app stores instead of publishers directly.No, apparently not. This game wasn't listed in my "My Stuff" tab in the OVI application. That's ok, I'll just download it from the SMS I was sent originally.

So at a loss I decide to turn to technical support, I mean after all I have a technical issue I need support with.I e-mail technical support Basically telling them above. Then then ask for a transaction ID, which I have no record of (not sure why not?). I then provide even more information, ask them to escalate, ect. End result is, I don't get my game back. They have no record of me downloading this in the past, and for some reason it isn't available to download anymore.Frustrated, I e-mail the developer/publisher, explaining my situation. They respond promptly (within the hour), providing my with a link and SMS to download the application again, and apologise for Nokia's behaviour. Nice. I've now got my game back things are good again in my world.So with that little story in mind, I raise a few questions. Why was this application not backed up/restored with my phone backup? This seems like a pretty serious bug, especially considering that technical support won't provide download links for games or applications unless you can provide them with information provided by Nokia in the first place ( :s very round about).
My situation is pretty small in the whole scheme of things I guess. But if it can happen to me I guess it can happen to others. So why Nokia can things like this happen? What would have happened if this wasn't a small game, but rather a largish application, with data, that cost lots of money? Sure I could have gone directly to the publisher then as well, but if the purchase was made through the OVI store, what record would they have of me? This centralised store is supposed to handle all of these problems (ie, Steam or Apple App Store). Also how can bugs like this get through the alpha/beta testing of the OVI Suite backup utility? This must surely be considered a critical part of the application.Judging from my response from Nokia thus far, I'm not sure if I'm even expecting a response to this. I guess it should server as a warning to others if they think they can trust this software or even the technical support behind it to back them up in case of issues. My advise? Get a different brand phone.

Nokia :: Ovi Suite Closes Without Any Error
I have an X6 and have installed ovi suite. It has worked fine for a couple of weeks and I have been able to succesfully transfer media such as pictures and music.
Now when I click to start up ovi suite it loads the first white page then closes without any error messages. The OVI icon on the bottom right taskbar disapears when I hover the mouse over it. It will not start. I'm getting really sick of this phone and the software.
Does anyone know why this problem is occuring? Every other device I connect regularly (such as ipod, sony ericsson and 2 external HDDs have not suddenly stopped working) so why has this cheapo Nokia suddenly become incompatible?

OVI suite can't update the support softare on my N97... it's says "unable to install support software". Any solutions? On the PC I already unistall all Nokia software, used PCSuite Cleaner and cleaned the registry and then reinstall OVI Suite.I don't wont to hard reset the phone, format drive E and reinstall all the software.

It was working fine prior to the update.Is anyone else experiencing the same problem? I am also running windows 7 and running other cell phone programs as well such as Sony Ericsson PC Companion. Could there be a conflict with that?

As the title said, my ovi suite crashed during the installation process of the new software ( 31.0.005 ). I did a backup of my phone, but don't know if this and how this is accessible? My phone wont start now.. I don't know what to do.

I've had my e72 since February, but I only just finally got around to downloading ovi suite on my PC. installation was fine, then it came to the part where it says to connect the phone, so I did that, but nothing happened. the thing on the PC said that I should select 'ovi suite' or 'PC suite' when it appears on the phone, but the home screen was blank. i've tried connecting it many times and still nothing. the phone lights up when i connect it to the computer, but it doesn't prompt me for the connection mode. i've checked the settings (currently on usb conn. mode: PC suite / ask on conn.: yes) but it's not asking me on connection, nor is there any indication on the ovi suite program that it is connected.

So i connect my Nokia 5800 XM all works great, i open OVI suite and go to maps. I want to downlaod the maps for my county to my mobile phone, and there start to come some problems.when i press maps on OVI suite, on the right side of the window i see the logo of the OVI maps and its in black/white and there is a text msg: "Internal Error" and Maps encountered a unknow error, try again later.So i did try but still the same, what is wrong, how to fix it? any help?

I just got a new 7020 phone which came with an usb cable but no applications disk. I downloaded the latest ovi pc suite and tried to install it. After a bit it's installing I always receive a generic 1622 error and the installer quits. Stopped the avast antivirus and tried reinstalling, still no success. The computer is an acer laptop with a centrino processor, 512mb ram and windows xp sp3.

I downloaded Nokia OVI Suite (NOS) on Oct 3 2009. I synchronized all available elements: Address Book, Messages, Notes Photos etc. Then (after some days) I sync. My E71 with Outlook by using (old and trusty) Nokia PC Suite. After a day I realized that some! of the phone numbers of some! of my contacts disappeared. I can't tell which and how many details (data-element/s) in each contact data were deleted. I can only tell that all contacts are still there, but some of them with no phone number or missing phones.
I know that if I was aware of this problem before sync. To Outlook, I could have saved most of my data. I also found a full backup of my E71 dated 16 Aug. 2009. I have about 1,200 contacts and I can't tell which was damaged and what is that damage.

Nokia :: Ovi Suite 2 Fresh Installed Windows - Error Starting Back Up
I have an N97 handset and a 5800 handset. I have recently tried to use Ovi Suite to back up my phone and hit a problem.
I have reinstalling my windows machine from scratch using an original Windows XP install disk. I used windows update to install all windows patches (including IE8 and SP3) . When running windows update it tells me there are no new updates available. I also installed the latest firefox browser.
I downloaded and Ovi suite 2.0 from the Nokia website. I allowed it to detect my N97 handset. I allowed it to check for software updates and it told me there was an update for Ovi, which I installed.
I have set up Ovi not to sync anything with my phone. When I connect my phone and it appears in the Ovi suite, I can click on the "Back up" link or select back up from the tools menu.
At first it tells me than an operation is in progress and that I must wait or cancel it. I can't see that the Ovi suite is doing anything, no progress bars are present. If I wait 5 minutes and try back up again, the back up dialog appears. I select next to move onto step 2. It first says: "Wait a moment while preparing the backup…" then after about 30 seconds a red exclamation icon appears with: "Internal error. Due to an internal error, backup cannot be made. You can try again from Tools > Backup"
I've tried restarting the machine, restarting the phone, disconnecting, reconnecting and I cannot progress past step 2 of the backup.
I have also tried connecting a 5800 phone and experience exactly the same problem.
This is a fresh install of both Windows and Ovi suite with all the latest updates.
the N97 handset is running v11 of the firmware, since (although it is unbranded) v12 is still not available. the 5800 handset is running v21, since (although it is also unbranded) v30 and v31 are still not available. Both phones were bought directly from Nokia.

On June calendar sync worked fine between my E55 and Outlook 97. After my summer vacation sync doesn't work.
Now I get always error message: "Reconnect the USB cable or connect via Bluetooth. Then senc again. Error code: 8004fced" I have tried with cable and BT. Already I have reinstalled Ovi Suite and I have flashed my E55 again but these didn't help. Sync working with contacts, messages and pictures.

I have the last version of PC Suite (7.1.30.9) installed on my PC (Windows XP SP3). When I connect my N97, it first gives me this message:"The pc suite support installed on your phone must be updated to support new features"I went to "help" and clicked on "Reinstall PC Suite support". It asked me a confirmation, which I did, but then nothing happened! Now the option "Reinstall PC Suite support" is not available on PC Suite anymore and the biggest issue I have is that the application "Synchronise" does not work (it was not working before).

I am trying to install and use the Nokia NSeries software that came with a N78-1. The installation seems to be successful, but just after the Nokia NSeries PC Suite software is installed, I can see it is launched (icon in system tray) as the rest of the software is installed.It then pops up a "This program has performed an illegal operation". After the reboot, I try again, but with the same error. At some stage, I tried it again, and got an application error with more info.

i did plug my nokia 5800, ovi found out that my maps could be updated...it deleted all my older maps and as it tried to download the new one i always get this message "internal error the software faced an unknowed error.try again later" i have more than enough space on my memory card (5.3 Go free) , i tried downloading the france map piece by piece and it stille don't work, even with the language files which are about 2Mo . the download start with the progression bar but never end

How can I make my nokia E71 sync back with PC Suite after I started using OVI Suite? I have a Nokia E71, and i was using Nokia PC Suite to sync it with my outlook 2007 it all worked fine, contacts, to do notes and calendar (i wasn't syncing mail cuase i use gmail), untill the new ovi suite came out and i decided to try it since It sounded better.turns out It really sucked this ovi suite!! one of the worst softwares I've ever used, it duplicated all of the appointments that had color categories in outlook 2007, it is dead slow to sync!!!(i mean reeeaaly slow), even tough the Suite integrates more stuff in to one place it has reduced funcionality to sync stuff with my phone, it offers less funtions, not to mention that the user interface sukcs (its poorly desingned, it takes long to accses stuff, it shows me stuff as if it was advertisement).PC suite was very simple but funcional, oviously i went back to pc suite, to my surprise i couldn't sync, pc suite & the phone would do as if they were syncing, but when i checked at the end it wouldn't sync stuff.

Nokia :: N900 Smart Suite And Ovi Suite
Have a N900. Got the phone to work against Smart Suite and later Ovis Suite very well for the first 3 weeks. Then the trouble started. I used it both with USB cable and BTooth. First my synchronization with Lotus Notes calendar stopped (have to go by the PC), then contacts and messages. And today it does not even recognize the phone as a compatible phone. In the whole period I have been installing all kind of applications. My suspicion is that the trouble is due to an installation of a particular application - my question is:Anyone that got an idea what might have caused this?? Hope for help without re-intsalling the machine.

1. Ovi Suite is NOT a replacement for PC Suite. I have an email from Nokia support telling me so and that its OK to run BOTH sets of software. BUT the POINT of MY email to them was I DO NOT WANT to cluter my PC up with 100s of 'ragtail' Nokia software products - I want all the functionality encapsulated in one product which is why both these products are supposed to do so by NAMING their products ' Nokia xxxx SUITE '
2. I used LIFEBLOG under PC suite extensively. All my SMS text messages are saved and stored because I use this DATA for business communications. SMS is a record just like an email. It is invaluable to me to have an accurate record of ALL my SMS text messages. I was experiencing problems with Lifeblog NOT transfering ALL my SMS messages from the phone to Nokia PC suite. New messages not previously transfered to my PC were not picked up my the Lifeblog software as being needed to be transfered to my computer. I still dont know why it doesnt recognise these messages. Is there some sort of 'flag' put on the message in the phone data ? Why cant I CHOOSE which INDIVIDUAL Messages that I want transfered. AND why cant I set a control to transfer the message from the phone to the PC MORE than ONCE. (For instance I may inadvertantly have deleted a record of an SMS message on Lifeblog but the message is still in the phone memory and I want to transfer that message again - but there is NO way that I can see to do this..........
