Katari Veera Surasundarangi- a visual spectacle!

Just back from watching Katari Veera Surasundarangi (KVSS)- in 3D!

Cast:
Upendra as Upendra (who has also written the screenplay and dialogues)
Ramya (Divya Spandana) as Indraja
Ambrish as Yama
Doddanna as Chitragupta
Mutthappa Rai as himself (special appearance)
Directed by: Suresh Krishna
Produced by: Muniratna
Music:
V. Harikrishna

Visually, KVSS is a spectacle. Storywise, not so much. True to it's claim, the entire movie is in 3D, which makes the movie watching experience all the more delightful. Some real kick-ass CG, and elaborate sets have been used, and watching it in 3D is what makes it a visual spectacle. That, along with Upendra's dialogues makes the movie what it is. The story is pretty lame, and that was quiet disappointing.
All the songs have been exquisitely shot, with the heat turning up in songs like 'Ambika', 'Ooh la la' and 'Jum Jumka'.
Ramya would have looked better if she had lost some weight for her role (Personally, i think Suman Ranganath looked better than Ramya). Upendra's talent hasn't been wasted and he lives up to the expectations. Ambrish and Doddanna are convincing as the Yama- Chitragupta duo.

The story is not a sequel to Upendra's earlier 'Rakta Kanneeru' as touted elsewhere. The only connection is that Upendra in KVSS is the son of Mohan from Rakta Kanneeru. There are some memorable dialogues from other Upendra's films (ee prethi prema ella pustakada badane kaayi antha prove aagoithu- from 'A').
A must watch for Upendra's fans.

My verdict- 3.5/5

Story- (WARNING: contains movie plots and spoilers)
The story begins with Upendra trying to become a Don. He goes to Mutthappa Rai - an ex don him self- for advice. But Rai tries to dissuade him from getting into the 'field'. Upendra, unconvinced, tries to become a Don anyways. In the process he gets himself killed (in an overly melodramatic way). He goes Up there, but since he's done equal no. of sins and good stuff, he's allowed to roam heaven and hell. There, he meets Lord Indra's daughter Indraja and falls in love with her and wins her heart. The demi gods oppose to their marriage and try to seperate them by sending Upendra back to earth. The rest of the movie deals with how Upendra ends up with Indraja.
